February 28, 2018

The 22nd annual Violence Awareness & Random Acts of Kindness Week is being held March 5th to 11th, 2018. The purpose of the week is to promote positive energy to counteract the negative effects of senseless violence in our society, through acts of kindness. Twenty four thousand area elementary & high school students in Hastings & Prince Edward Counties are invited to participate as well as the greater Quinte, North Hastings & Prince Edward County communities.

You are invited to participate in the planned events for the week:

Monday March 5th - Opening ceremonies, student awards and candle light vigil remembering victims of violence to be held at the Quinte Mall Kindness Court at 6:30 p.m.

Tuesday March 6th - Kindness Crews will be travelling throughout Belleville, Trenton, Frankford, Stirling, Madoc, Marmora, Picton, Wellington & Bloomfield bestowing acts of kindness upon those communities.

Wednesday March 7th - Blue Ribbon of Hope Day - you are invited to wear a blue ribbon as a symbol of hope to end senseless violence.  A supply of blue lapel ribbons will be available in the community and at each Highland Shores Children's Aid office.

Saturday March 10th - draws for a handmade "Kindness Bear", a beautiful lap quilt and a $50 Gift Card.  Raffle tickets are $2 each or 3 for $5 and are available at the Kindness Booth at the Quinte Mall.

Cast your vote for QUINTE'S KINDNESS CITIZEN (click here for a ballot) Deadline for entries is noon Friday, March 09/18.
Take a moment to nominate a co-worker, family member, friend or someone you know who makes a positive difference - it's that simple!! See the ballot for details.  All nominations can be faxed or dropped off to the Quinte Mall or email the required information to varak96@gmail.com.  All nominations received are entered in the draw and on the Saturday, of VARAK week, the winner is picked by a random draw. The winner gets his or her name put on the pillar in the Kindness Court. They also receive a plague in recognition of their acts of kindness.  Remember, any act of kindness no matter how small truly shows there are Angels among us.

Sunday March 11th - Random Acts of Kindness Day - acts of kindness are those deeds that take an extra effort of being kind when you are not required to do so. Make a positive difference in someone's life!

Remember Kindness is contagious, please pass it on!
