Casual Support Worker (TFC)

Opportunities may exist over the next four to six months for contract positions as Casual Support Workers within Therapeutic Family Care. Applications will be kept on file for future opportunities.

The Therapeutic Family Care Program for the Children’s Aid Societies of Durham, Highland Shores, and Kawartha Haliburton is seeking Casual Support Workers.  The Casual Support Worker will provide 1 to 1 support to youth and in-home support to caregivers. This job will involve working weekends and irregular hours.

Successful candidates for these positions will have a Diploma in Child and Youth Work (or equivalent) with additional experience in working with children and families.  Experience in Child Welfare and/or Children’s Mental Health would be an asset.

Casual Support Workers provide support to maintain, strengthen and promote healthy family functioning as well as child safety. Assessing needs of youth and providing programming to support in meeting the identified goals to prevent placement breakdowns, encourage reunifications, develop life & social skills, provide recreational opportunities and placement stability by working as a member of the clinical team to deliver identified services.

Required Qualifications, Knowledge, Education and Skills:

  • A Child and Youth Worker Diploma or equivalent from a three-year accredited Community College program.
  • Two years’ relevant experience would be considered an asset.
  • Demonstrated understanding of child development, family systems, the effects of trauma on the child and a systems approach to working with families and professionals working with the families would be an asset.
  • Demonstrated ability; to work from an attachment and trauma informed lens
  • Ability to build relationships with youth and families
  • Proof of a valid driver’s license and $1,000,000 automobile liability insurance; with daily access to a reliable vehicle.
  • Available to work flexible hours.
