'Family' is a single word that can have many different meanings. While families may take many forms, what they all share is that the people within them are important to each other.
In Ontario on February 15th we have a chance to celebrate “family” in all of its variations and be reminded once again of the special gift the bonds of family can provide.
The importance of those family bonds can’t be underestimated and are essential to the well-being of children and youth. At Highland Shores Children’s Aid our goal is to keep families together whenever possible, unless it means a child’s safety or well-being is at risk. In the majority of families we work with children remain at home.
Family can also mean kin or individuals who have made a significant impact on a young person and in situations where children can’t be returned to their immediate family, these are the people who can provide that essential bond to loved ones.
We hope that you enjoy spending time on February 15th with those who are most important to you and remember how vital having a sense of family is to us all.
